Ooh Glossary

Content-mode editor:

The perfect mode for when you need to make quick and simple edits to your written content, visual content and links. 


Full mode editor:

The more advanced editing mode that allows you permission to make customisations to the website design.

Media Manager:

The Media Manager is where all the media files you upload to your site are stored.


Contact Form:

A widget on a website that allows users to communicate with the site owner. The widget has fields for filling in name, address and type of comment. The contact form provides an immediate, convenient way for users to ask the company questions.


SVG logo file:

Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is an XML-based vector image format for defining two-dimensional graphics, having support for interactivity and animation.


PNG logo file:

PNG is short for Portable Network Graphic, a type of raster image file. It's particularly popular file type with web designers because it can handle graphics with transparent or semi-transparent backgrounds.

Font license:

Font licensing refers to the legal agreements that govern the use of font files. Font foundries create license agreements that outline the terms and conditions for font use.


Hex Code:

Hex codes are a hexadecimal format for identifying colors. Hex color codes start with a hashtag (#) and are followed by six letters and/or numbers.. 


Navigation Menus:

A navigation menu is typically a horizontal or vertical bar that can be found on every one of your website's landing pages. With a navigation menu, visitors can easily make their way around your website and get to where they want to go.


Page name

When you create a new Page, you enter a name. That Page Name then is used in many places:

  • Site navigation

  • Site map

  • Browser title bar

  • Browser address bar, as part of the URL

  • The default Page Title


Title tags

The Title Tag is the headline of your site and can be seen in the browser tab. It is important as it also appears in Google search results. Make sure to use meaningful title tags.


URL Slug

A URL slug refers to the end part of a URL after the backslash (“/”) that identifies the specific page or post. Each slug on your web pages needs to be unique, and they provide readers and search engines alike with information about the contents of a web page or post.


Meta descriptions

A meta description generally informs and interests users with a short, relevant summary of what a particular page is about. They are like a pitch that convince the user that the page is exactly what they're looking for.


SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.


Coming Soon Page

A coming soon landing page is a pre-launch page or placeholder for a page that isn't ready because a product, service, feature, or website hasn't launched yet.


Domain Name

A domain name is the text that a user types into a browser window to reach a particular website. For instance, the domain name for Google is 'google.com'.


Domain Name Registration

Domain name registration is the act of reserving a name on the Internet for a certain period, usually one year. Keep in mind, that it is important to know that this domain will remain yours for as long as you renew it and there is no way to purchase a domain name forever.


Pointing Domain

In the simplest terms, pointing a domain means connecting your domain name to your web host's server.

Website Cookies

A cookie is a piece of data from a website that is stored within a web browser that the website can retrieve at a later time. Cookies are used to tell the server that users have returned to a particular website.

Legislation such as GDPR, CCPA, and VCDPA grants users the right to control how data is collected about them by websites. As a result, websites must obtain users' consent before they store, retrieve, or use data stored on individual devices. Cookie permissions involve the process of obtaining that consent.

A CMS, or content management system, is a computer software application that manages the digital content of a website. A CMS functions as a user-friendly system for website content development, making it possible for individuals to update their site without using code.
